Soybean prices rise due to strong demand from crushing mills

New Delhi. Due to the decrease in sowing area and better business of oil and DOC and strong demand for crushing-processing, soybean prices rose by Rs 100-200 during the week of 2-8 August and reached very close to the minimum support price (MSP).
Madhya Pradesh
In some places in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the plant delivery price of soybean jumped to above Rs 5000 per quintal, which is more than the MSP of Rs 4892 per quintal. The price was recorded at Rs 5130 per quintal in a plant in Solapur.
Soybean Oil (Refined)
However, the prices of soybean refined oil could not rise in line with the rise in soybean prices and it remained almost stable with limited increase.
Plant
In most plants, the price of refined soya oil could increase by only 5-10 rupees per 10 kg, while the prices remained stable in the remaining plants. The price of degummed soya oil softened a bit in the international market. Its import price for August delivery at Indian ports fell by 4 to $ 1185 per tonne. This did not give much opportunity to the plants to increase the price.
Soya Cake (DOC)
But soya DOC did good business for domestic and export markets, due to which its prices increased by up to Rs 2500 per tonne. In a unit in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, the price of soya DOC increased by Rs 2500 to Rs 39500 per tonne.
Sowing area
The market price of soyabean has jumped sharply at the very end of the sowing season, so it is likely to have limited impact on the area. The production area of this most important oilseed of the Kharif season has decreased by 5 lakh hectares from 123.50 lakh hectares last year to 118.50 lakh hectares this time, which is much behind the normal average area of 127.20 lakh hectares. The soybean sowing season is coming to an end. The arrival of its new stock will start in full swing from October.
