Soybean Prices Decline Due to Weakened Demand

New Delhi: During the week of June 27–July 3, plant delivery prices for soybean dropped by ₹100–₹150 per quintal across the top three producing states—Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan—due to subdued demand from crushing and processing units and a normal supply situation. Consequently, prices fell to around or below ₹7,000 per quintal.
Soybean Oil (Refined)
As a result, prices for refined soybean oil also softened by ₹5–₹20 per 10 kg. The sharpest decline was observed in units at Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, where prices dropped by ₹20 to settle at ₹1,410–₹1,420 per 10 kg. Prices eased by ₹15 in Kota and Haldia, and by ₹10 in Mumbai and Kandla.
Market Arrivals
Soybean arrivals in the wholesale markets of major producing states remain normal. Supply stood at 1.40 lakh bags (100 kg each) on June 30; it dipped to 1.15 lakh bags on July 2 but recovered to 1.40 lakh bags by July 3.
Sowing
The pace of soybean sowing is currently slower than last year; however, the Indore-based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) anticipates that the sowing rate will accelerate in the coming days, ultimately pushing the total cultivation area beyond last year's figures. This could exert downward pressure on prices.
Soybean Meal (DOC)
Prices for soybean DOC (De-oiled Cake) also witnessed a sharp decline due to weak demand at higher price levels. Indian soybean meal has become largely uncompetitive in the international market, leading to a slump in export demand. Prices for soybean DOC remained notably soft in Maharashtra.
