Paddy-rice prices rise due to limited supply and good demand

New Delhi. In April, there was a great export of about 5 lakh tonnes of Basmati rice from the country, which earned an income of $ 534 million. In May, the export offer price softened a bit, but now the situation is gradually becoming normal. The export performance of non-Basmati Sela rice is also expected to improve somewhat. Meanwhile, during the 2023-24 season, government procurement of rice for the central pool is reported to have reached above 500 lakh tonnes.

Delhi

During the week from May 30 to June 5, due to limited supply (5-10 thousand bags daily) and strong demand in Delhi's Narela Mandi, the price of paddy of different varieties and categories rose by Rs 100-200 per quintal, but the price of 1509 hands fell by Rs 100 to Rs 3400 per quintal. In Bhatpara Mandi of Chhattisgarh, the price of Shriram new paddy increased by Rs 200 and the price of Vishnu Bhog new paddy increased by Rs 100.

Arrival

Daily arrival of paddy was recorded at 800 bags. In Tarawadi of Haryana, the price of 1121 increased by Rs 100 but the price of DP local came down by Rs 100.

Rajasthan

In Bundi of Rajasthan, the price of paddy increased by Rs 100-200 per quintal while in Kota, a fluctuation of Rs 50 was seen.

Rice

As far as rice is concerned, its price remained stable in Bhatpara of Chhattisgarh, Raichur of Karnataka, Nagar of Uttarakhand and Karnal of Haryana. In Bundi, the price increased by Rs 100-200.

Punjab

In Rajim, BPT scheme rice came down by Rs 300 while in Amritsar (Punjab), the price of rice increased by Rs 100 to Rs 250 per quintal.

Delhi

The price of rice remained strong in Delhi's Naya Bazar. There, the price of Sugandha Sela and 1718 Sela rice jumped by Rs 300 to Rs 4800/5000 per quintal and Rs 7300/7500 per quintal respectively. The price of some other varieties also increased by Rs 100. But in Gondia, Maharashtra, the price of rice increased by up to Rs 400 and fell to Rs 550.

Production

The sowing of Kharif paddy is going to start soon. The Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated the domestic production of rice to reach a peak level of 1367 lakh tonnes during the 2023-24 season, which is 9.45 lakh tonnes more than the production of 1357.55 lakh tonnes in the 2022-23 season.
