Significant fall in mustard prices due to decrease in buying at high prices
New Delhi. For the last few weeks, the price of mustard was rising rapidly and in almost all the major markets, it had reached close to or above the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 5650 per quintal. The market was getting good support from the purchase of NAFED. But the market price had reached above the MSP. The market was getting good support from the purchase of NAFED. But after the market price reached above the MSP, the government purchase of mustard stopped and the price of mustard oil also started coming down. As a result, the demand of crushing units weakened at high prices and during the week of 31 May to 6 June, the price of mustard fell sharply by Rs 200-300 per quintal.
42% condition mustard
During the week under review, the price of 42% condition mustard fell by Rs 200 to Rs 5900 per quintal in Delhi but remained at the previous level of Rs 6125/6150 per quintal in Jaipur.
Gujarat
In Gujarat, the price of mustard fell by Rs 180 in Deesa and Rs 205 per quintal in Dhanera Mandi. The price of mustard remained soft in the markets of Haryana as well. There its price fell by Rs 300 in Barwala and Rs 200 in Sirsa. A decline of Rs 200 was also seen in Porsa Mandi of Madhya Pradesh.
Rajasthan
But the biggest decline was recorded in Bundi and Nagaur of Rajasthan where the price of mustard fell by Rs 300 each to Rs 5300 per quintal and Rs 5200/5700 per quintal respectively. Mustard remained soft in Bharatpur, Alwar and Kota as well. In Uttar Pradesh, the price of mustard fell by Rs 60 in Hapur and Rs 100 per quintal in Agra.
Arrival
At the all India level, 7 lakh sacks each were recorded on 31 May and 1 June, 6.50 lakh sacks each on 3 and 4 June, 6 lakh sacks on 5 June and 5.25 lakh sacks on 6 June. Each sack of mustard weighs 50 kg. Actually, as long as the price remained high, there was a good arrival of mustard but later it started decreasing.
Mustard oil
Due to the fall in the price of mustard, the price of mustard oil also fell by 25 to 40 rupees per 10 kg. The price of expeller fell by 15 rupees to 1130 rupees in Delhi and by 30 rupees to 1150 rupees per 10 kg in Mumbai. A massive drop of Rs 40 per 10 kg was recorded in the price of mustard oil in Morena, Ganganagar and Bikaner.
