Coriander Prices on the Rise: No Significant Downturn Expected

New Delhi: Coriander prices witnessed an upward trend during the current week. Notably, due to the festival of Navratri, most markets (mandis) in Gujarat remained closed. However, trading proceeded smoothly in the markets of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The arrival of new coriander crops in the markets of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan was satisfactory. Nevertheless, driven by rising rates in the futures market, coriander prices in the spot markets are also being quoted at higher levels. Market sources indicate that, due to the financial year-end closing in March, most markets will remain closed during the upcoming week. However, once the markets reopen in April, there is likely to be a temporary surge in the inflow of coriander supplies. At that juncture, coriander prices may witness a slight decline for a short period; however, the long-term outlook remains positive. This is because, during the year 2026, the total availability of coriander is projected to fall short of the total consumption demand. Sources believe that, in the absence of imports, a significant upward trend in coriander prices could be observed during the current season.

Due to a decline in crop yield and dwindling stock levels, the prevailing market sentiment among traders is bullish. It is noteworthy that, since 2023, the domestic production of coriander in the country has been on a downward trajectory. Consequently, the available stock is also depleting as production declines. As a result, the total availability of coriander during the year 2026 is estimated to hover around 12 to 12.5 million bags. In contrast, the combined requirement—encompassing both domestic consumption and exports—stands at approximately 14 to 15 million bags.

Price Trends

During the current week, coriander prices recorded an increase of ₹4 to ₹5 per kilogram. In Ramganj—a major market in Rajasthan—the price for the 'Coriander Eagle' variety opened at ₹105–₹106 per kilogram at the beginning of the week, eventually rising to be quoted at ₹108–₹110 per kilogram by the week's end. Similarly, in the Baran market, prices surged from ₹105 to be quoted at ₹110 per kilogram. In the Guna market of Madhya Pradesh, the price for the 'Coriander Eagle' variety was quoted at ₹108–₹109 per kilogram by the close of the week. In contrast, at the beginning of the week, prices were being quoted at ₹104–105. During the current week, coriander prices in the Ashok Nagar, Kumbhraj, and Binaganj markets of Madhya Pradesh witnessed an upward trend, rising by ₹3–4 per kilogram. Driven by bullish reports from production hubs, coriander prices at consumption centers also saw an increase of ₹4–5 per kilogram; however, trading activity remained subdued at these elevated price levels. Furthermore, export trade in coriander is currently facing limitations due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Coriander exports remained low during January 2026. In January 2026, coriander exports totaled 4,114.48 tonnes, whereas exports stood at 5,786.13 tonnes in January 2025 and 6,225.32 tonnes in January 2024.
