Temperatures Expected to Remain Normal Due to Active Western Disturbances

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) states that due to the rapid succession of two active Western Disturbances, temperatures in the northwestern and central parts of the country have remained close to normal levels. Furthermore, there is a possibility of overcast skies and light rainfall in certain regions.
According to the Meteorological Department, one Western Disturbance had already become active on March 24, while the second disturbance became active today—March 27. The onset of this second disturbance actually began on March 26.
Notably, the Meteorological Department had previously predicted that due to lower-than-usual pre-monsoon rainfall in March, temperatures might hover slightly above normal levels; however, the arrival of these Western Disturbances prevented the heat from intensifying significantly.
Agricultural experts observe that while the rainfall occurring between March 11 and March 22 caused some damage to wheat and other Rabi crops, the current weather conditions remain largely favorable for the crops.
The return to normal temperatures will aid in the maturation process of the crops. Preparations for the harvesting of Rabi crops have already commenced across various states. Currently, there is a robust influx of produce into the agricultural markets (mandis), and the procurement and trading processes are proceeding smoothly.
The month of March is drawing to a close. In April, states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar are expected to witness a massive arrival of wheat produce; therefore, it is crucial that weather conditions remain favorable during that period. Rainfall in April would prove detrimental to the Rabi crops.
