New Delhi. Currently, turmeric prices are trading with a downward trend. New arrivals have begun in the markets of most producing centers, and predictions are for another year of increased turmeric production in the country. It is noteworthy that in 2024, the national turmeric production was 50-55 lakh bags, which increased to 70-72 lakh bags in 2025. Production for the current 2026 season is estimated at 80-85 lakh bags (each bag weighing 60 kg).

Slow-Rise

Experts say that due to the increased arrival of new goods at producing centers and the negative news in futures, turmeric prices have recently declined by 3-4 rupees per kg. Prices will remain soft in the coming days as pressure from new arrivals in the markets increases. However, due to weak overall availability compared to consumption, turmeric prices are expected to rise significantly in 2026. Sources indicate that during the current season, the total production will be around 80/85 lakh bags and the outstanding stock of 12/15 lakh bags, resulting in a total availability of around 10 million bags. However, the requirement for domestic consumption and exports combined is 110/120 million bags. Currently, the price of single polished turmeric bundle in the Delhi market is being quoted at Rs 150/152 per kg.

Arrivals

Currently, in addition to the Nizamabad market, new arrivals have also begun in Erode, Sangli, and Hingoli markets, while arrivals in Basmat, Nanded, Warangal, and Dugirala markets are reported to begin in March.

Production Estimates

According to information received from producing centers, turmeric production during the current season is estimated to be 3.2-3.5 million bags on the Marathwada (Basmat, Hingoli, Nanded) line. Production on the Sangli line is reported to be 1.0-1.2 million bags, and Nizamabad is reported to be 1.2-1.3 million bags. Production on the Erode and Salem lines is reported to be 1.4-1.5 million bags. Trade estimates are also for 5-6 million bags in other areas, with production of 2 million bags on the Warangal line and 250-300,000 bags on the Dugirala and Kadapa lines.
