Soybean sowing declines while groundnut gains momentum
★ In the current Kharif season, soybean sowing across India has seen a notable decline, whereas groundnut sowing has registered an increase. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and various state departments, as of July 18, 2025, total soybean sowing in the country stood at 111.67 lakh hectares, compared to 118.96 lakh hectares during the same period last year — a drop of 7.29 lakh hectares.

State-wise soybean sowing status:
★ Maharashtra: 44.67 lakh ha, down by 3.03 lakh ha (as of 14.07.25)
★ Rajasthan: 9.55 lakh ha, down by 1.04 lakh ha (as of 21.07.25)
★ Karnataka: 4.01 lakh ha, down by 0.25 lakh ha (as of 11.07.25)
★ Gujarat: 2.24 lakh ha, down by 0.61 lakh ha (as of 21.07.25)
★ Telangana: 3.30 lakh ha, down by 0.14 lakh ha (as of 16.07.25)

★ Total sowing in these key states is 63.77 lakh hectares, which is 5.18 lakh hectares lower than the previous year.
★ On the other hand, groundnut sowing has gained momentum this season. As of July 18, 2025, total groundnut sowing in India reached 38.01 lakh hectares, up from 37.16 lakh hectares last year — an increase of 0.85 lakh hectares.
State-wise groundnut sowing status:
★ Gujarat: 19.42 lakh ha, up by 1.24 lakh ha (as of 21.07.25)
★ Rajasthan: 9.15 lakh ha, up by 1.72 lakh ha (as of 21.07.25)
★ Maharashtra: 1.79 lakh ha, down by 0.43 lakh ha (as of 14.07.25)
★ Karnataka: 1.18 lakh ha, down by 0.50 lakh ha (as of 11.07.25)
★ Andhra Pradesh: 0.56 lakh ha, down by 0.65 lakh ha (as of 16.07.25)

Total sowing in these five states reached 31.28 lakh hectares, which is 1.41 lakh hectares more than the same period last year.
