Soybean Area Drops, Peanut Acreage Surges Ahead

New Delhi. Compared to last year, there has been some increase in peanut production area at the national level during the current Kharif season, but soybean sowing area has decreased.
The latest weekly data of the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that as compared to 2024, during 2025, till July 18, soybean acreage has decreased from 118.96 lakh hectares to 111.67 lakh hectares. On the other hand, peanut acreage improved from 37.16 lakh hectares to 38.01 lakh hectares.
State-wise data of sowing area is also coming out. Under this, during the period under review, soybean production area decreased from 47.70 lakh hectare to 44.67 lakh hectare in Maharashtra, from 10.80 lakh hectare to 9.55 lakh hectare in Rajasthan,
from 4.26 lakh hectare to 4.01 lakh hectare in Karnataka, from 2.85 lakh hectare to 2.24 lakh hectare in Gujarat and from 3.34 lakh hectare to 3.30 lakh hectare in Telangana.
Thus, soybean area in the above states decreased from 68.95 lakh hectare last year to 63.77 lakh hectare. This figure does not include the sowing area of the most prominent producing state- Madhya Pradesh and some other states.
As far as groundnut is concerned, its production area increased from 29.87 lakh hectare to 31.28 lakh hectare in the major producing states.
Under this, the area increased from 18.28 lakh hectare to 19.42 lakh hectare in Gujarat and jumped from 7.43 lakh hectare to 9.15 lakh hectare in Rajasthan, but decreased from 1.68 lakh hectare to 1.18 lakh hectare in Karnataka, fell from 1.21 lakh hectare to 56 thousand hectare in Andhra Pradesh and slipped from 1.27 lakh hectare to 97 thousand hectare in Maharashtra.
