South Australia’s Agricultural Production Estimated at Nearly 9.8 Million Tonnes

Perth: Favourable weather conditions, above-average rainfall and minimal pest and disease pressure are expected to boost agricultural production in South Australia during the 2026-27 season to around 9.79 million tonnes. According to a new report by the Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA), this estimate is 779,000 tonnes higher than the production forecast made in May.

According to the PIRSA report, the estimated production for the 2026-27 season is 11% above the five-year average and around 1 million tonnes higher than the 8.78 million tonnes recorded in 2025-26. Notably, the state produced 10.7 million tonnes of grain crops in 2016-17 and a record 12.6 million tonnes in 2022-23. The current 2026-27 season could therefore see the third-highest production on record.

Regular and favourable rainfall has enabled various agricultural crops to progress steadily across the state. In view of these conditions, production estimates have been revised upward. The lentil production forecast, for instance, has been increased by 91,000 tonnes to 938,000 tonnes, which would be a new record.

However, weather conditions in the coming months could still affect crop yields and the final production outcome.
