New Crop Cotton Prices Expected at ₹75–80 per kg

Coimbatore: The Domestic and Export Market Intelligence Cell of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has estimated that cotton prices in the state during the new-crop harvesting season are likely to remain between ₹7,500 and ₹8,000 per quintal, or ₹75–80 per kg. This is slightly below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). According to the cell’s report, the price forecast is based on an analysis of 20 years of price trends prevailing at the Mulanur APMC. Farmers should plan their marketing strategies accordingly.

India ranks first in the world in terms of area under cotton cultivation and second in production. According to the Union Agriculture Ministry’s second advance estimate, cotton was cultivated on 11.482 million hectares in India during the 2025-26 season, while total cotton production reached 4.9453 million tonnes. The average cotton yield was recorded at 431 kg per hectare.

The major cotton-producing states in India include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. Cotton is also produced in Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. Commercial cultivation of Bt cotton is carried out in all these states except Odisha.
