New Delhi. Rabi crop cultivation has been completed nationally, according to government data. Compared to the previous week, there was little change in the acreage under Rabi crops during the week ending February 6, 2026. New data released by the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that the total area under Rabi crops has increased by 1.6 million hectares, or 2.4 percent, from 66.1 million hectares in 2024-25 to 67.7 million hectares in 2025-26.
Wheat sowing area improved by approximately 1.9 percent to reach 33.417 million hectares. Similarly, the area under pulses has increased by 3.7 percent to reach approximately 14 million hectares, with pulses like gram and lentils contributing significantly.
The area under coarse grains during the Rabi season also increased by 1.6 percent to reach around 6.1 million hectares. Overall, there was no significant change in the area under cereal crops on a weekly basis.
The area under oilseed crops also increased by 3.8 percent compared to last year, reaching over 9.7 million hectares. This reflected a significant increase in the area under mustard, while the area under peanuts, sunflowers, linseeds, and safflower also increased slightly.
Among coarse grains, the area under maize, barley, and finger millet increased, but the area under sorghum lagged behind. A mixed trend was observed in pulse crops. The area under rice during the Rabi season remained ahead of last year.
Sporadic harvesting of early-sown pulses and oilseeds has begun, and the yield and quality are satisfactory in the initial stages. The weather is now changing, and the temperature is increasing, increasing the heat. High temperatures can prove detrimental to Rabi crops.
Mustard and chickpea crops will begin arriving in earnest next month (March), so favorable weather in February is essential. Currently, the situation remains normal.
