Lentils:
★ Global lentil markets have remained largely steady in recent days amid light trading activity. Market participants are focused on the final production estimates expected next week from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Traders and processors are not expecting any major changes from the estimates released in September.
★ At that time, lentil production was estimated at 516,000 metric tonnes from 1.1 million acres, compared with 423,000 metric tonnes from 964,400 acres in 2024.

Chickpeas:
★ Global chickpea markets opened the new year on a weaker note. Rising global stocks of both kabuli and desi varieties are putting pressure on prices. In some countries, production is expected to decline this year, as higher on-farm stocks and lower average prices may reduce farmers’ willingness to plant the crop.
★ Projected declines in area and production in countries such as Canada and the United States are expected to be partly offset by larger harvests in India and Mexico.
