News Capsule: International Pulses Market: Firmness in Black Matpe, Weakness Continues in Other Key Pulses
★ Imported black matpe (urad) prices for India have shown limited strength, while international prices of tur (pigeon pea), desi chickpeas, yellow peas, and lentils have softened on both a weekly and monthly basis.
★ For July/August shipment to India, Brazil's Grade-1 black matpe remained steady at US$910/tonne. Meanwhile, Myanmar FAQ black matpe increased by US$10 to US$860/tonne, while Myanmar SQ grade rose by US$10 to US$945/tonne.
★ In contrast, international prices of tur, desi chickpeas, yellow peas, and lentils have continued to decline compared with both last week and last month.
★ Ample global supplies, weak buying interest, and large carryover stocks are keeping these pulse markets under pressure.
As a result, import costs for India are likely to remain favourable.
★ However, the future direction of domestic pulse prices will largely depend on the progress of the southwest monsoon and its impact on the upcoming kharif crop.
