News Capsule: Monsoon Reloaded: Depression to Bring Widespread Rain Across Several States This Week: IMD
★ The southwest monsoon has regained momentum as the season's first depression has formed over the Bay of Bengal, raising the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall across eastern, central, western, and north-western India this week.
★ Good rainfall is expected until Thursday over Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, the Konkan region, Mumbai, and several parts of north-west India.
★ The system is likely to interact with an approaching western disturbance, which could further intensify rainfall over central and western India. As a result, areas already affected by waterlogging may experience another spell of heavy rain.
★ The revival of the monsoon has also led to a significant improvement in seasonal rainfall. The rainfall deficit over Central India has narrowed to 23%, while the all-India deficit has declined to 27%. Over the next few days, the monsoon is expected to advance into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, completing its coverage across the country.
★ However, rainfall activity may ease over Central India and the west coast during the latter half of the week, while Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and the North-Eastern states are likely to witness increased rainfall.
