News Capsule: Australian Desi Chickpea Offer Prices for India Continue to Strengthen
★ According to the Weekly Pulses Price Report dated July 17, 2026, the offer price for Australian desi chickpeas for July/August shipment to India has increased to $595 per tonne (CNF). This is $25 per tonne (4%) higher than last week's price of $570 per tonne.
★ Two weeks ago, the offer stood at $580 per tonne, indicating that international prices have strengthened for the second consecutive week. The current offer is also 2% above the four-week average of $585 per tonne, reflecting firm export demand and relatively tight supply.
★ India's domestic chickpea availability remains comfortable at present. However, if international prices continue to rise and imports become more expensive, the higher landed cost could begin to support domestic chickpea prices, especially ahead of the festive demand season.
★ Market participants will closely monitor global supply conditions and weather developments in the coming weeks. If offer prices remain firm, chickpea imports into India are likely to become costlier, providing additional support to the domestic market.
★ Adding to the bullish outlook, chickpea acreage in Australia has declined this year, raising concerns over lower production. A smaller crop in one of the world's leading exporters could tighten export availability and push both international and Indian chickpea prices higher in the months ahead.
