Stock of Expired and Misleadingly Labeled Food Products Seized in Karnataka

Bengaluru: During a raid campaign in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, the Food Safety Department seized a stock of food products worth ₹1.38 crore that were either past their expiry date or bore misleading labels. Acting on the instructions of the State Health Minister, the department conducted an intensive search operation and confiscated the stock under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The seized items included medicines and pharmaceutical products. Raids were carried out at food product warehouses and distribution centers. During the operation, officials inspected labels, checked manufacturing dates, and seized products that had expired.

It is understood that these products were intended for sale via online channels and e-commerce platforms. During an inspection in Devanahalli, officials seized a stock of food products worth ₹14 lakh from a storage unit; these products bore labels containing incorrect or misleading information, or lacked adequate details.

Additionally, food products worth ₹10 lakh that had already passed their expiry date were confiscated. Similar products were also seized during raids at other locations.
