Minor fluctuations in lentil prices amid limited trading

Panama. Minor fluctuations in lentil prices are being observed due to limited trading in the international market and the commencement of planning for shipments of the upcoming new crop from the North American continent and the Black Sea region. A record lentil harvest is expected in Australia this season, while crop conditions in Russia are also reported to be favorable.
Canada is likely to face challenges and stiff competition in lentil exports during the 2026-27 marketing season, particularly due to rainfall in Australia.
Export offer prices for Australian red lentils are currently low, while Russia is aggressively attempting to sell its green lentils by lowering prices.
Lentil exporters from Canada and the US have adopted a defensive stance, suggesting potential difficulties ahead. Although the area sown with lentils in Canada is smaller, weather and rainfall conditions remain normal, fostering good crop progress.
If production proves satisfactory alongside high carryover stocks, it may be possible to keep prices low. However, pest and disease infestations have been observed in the lentil crop, which could impact yield rates and quality.
