Kharif Sowing Covers 81.03 Lakh Hectares in Gujarat

Ahmedabad. Sowing of Kharif crops in the western state of the country - Gujarat has reached its final stage, while there is a possibility of heavy damage to the crops due to extremely heavy rains and floods in many areas.

According to the latest data of the State Agriculture Department, till August 25, the production area of ​​Kharif crops in Gujarat reached 81.03 lakh hectares, which is 38 thousand hectares less than the sowing area of ​​81.41 lakh hectares during the same period last year.

According to official data, compared to last year, during the current Kharif season, the paddy production area in Gujarat improved from 8.82 lakh hectares to 8.92 lakh hectares and the market sowing area increased from 1.66 lakh hectares to 1.71 lakh hectares.

However, the area of ​​jowar decreased from 19 thousand hectares to 8 thousand hectares and the area of ​​maize fell from 2.85 lakh hectares to 2.76 lakh hectares.

Due to this, the total production area of ​​grain crops including paddy slipped from 13.67 lakh hectares to 13.57 lakh hectares.

The cultivation of the upcoming crops is almost complete. The production area of ​​pulses crops has increased from 3.79 lakh hectares last year to 4.14 lakh hectares this time.

Under this, the sowing area of ​​Arhar (Tuvar) increased from 2.24 lakh hectares to 2.71 lakh hectares but the area of ​​Moong fell from 55 thousand hectares to 48 thousand hectares and the area of ​​Urad fell from 83 thousand hectares to 77 thousand hectares.

The sowing of oilseed crops has increased by more than 3.16 lakh hectares and its production area jumped from 27.30 lakh hectares last year to 21.89 lakh hectares and the sowing area of ​​Castor increased from 4.70 lakh hectares to 5.39 lakh hectares but on the other hand the area of ​​sesame fell from 49 thousand hectares to 40 thousand hectares and the area of ​​soybean decreased from 3.00 lakh hectares to 2.77 lakh hectares.

Apart from this, the cotton production area in Gujarat has decreased from 23.61 lakh hectares to 20.72 lakh hectares this time and the area of ​​Guar has fallen from 80 thousand hectares to 72 thousand hectares.
