Saskatoon. Due to increase in sowing area and favourable weather conditions in the Prairie division of Western Canada, there has been a significant improvement in the yield, average yield rate and quality of Kabuli gram. Earlier, its productivity rate was expected to be quite high but now there is a possibility of some reduction in it. The agriculture department of Saskatchewan - Canada's most prominent agricultural producing province - has expressed the possibility of the average yield rate of Kabuli gram being 22 bushels per acre which is much lower than the estimate of 26 bushels per acre made in the September report. As a result, some reduction has also been made in the production figures.
During the current year, the sowing area of Kabuli gram in Canada has increased by more than 50 percent as compared to last year, so despite some reduction in the average yield rate, its total production will be high and its supply and availability will remain easy. According to official figures, about 8 thousand tons of Kabuli gram were exported from Canada in August, which increased by more than 50 percent to over 12 thousand tons in September.
On the other hand, the production of Kabuli gram has also increased in the Latin American country - Argentina, but mostly small grain gram is produced there. It is available at a relatively cheap price, so many countries show good interest in its purchase. Due to the availability of more low quality goods, some pressure is being seen on the global market price of Kabuli gram, but the market is expected to rise a bit in the coming time.
