Another update to the Export Sales report indicated wheat sales of 432,609 MT for the week ending December 11. This was in the middle of trade estimates of 300,000–600,000 MT and represented a 13.39% increase from the previous week.
CFTC data showed that as of December 16, spec traders added a total of 20,849 contracts to their net short position in Chicago wheat futures and options, taking the total net short to 66,918 contracts. In KC wheat, managed money added 8,702 contracts to its net short position, bringing the total to 25,713 contracts as of last Tuesday.
According to estimates from the European Commission, EU soft wheat exports from July 1 to December 21 totaled 10.8 MMT, slightly below the 11 MMT exported during the same period last year.
