News Capsule: Bangladesh to procure edible oil and lentils ahead of Ramadan
★ Ahead of Ramadan, the Bangladesh government has approved the purchase of 47.5 million litres of edible oil and 10,000 tonnes of lentils to ensure adequate supply and keep prices stable.
★ Of the total edible oil, 37.5 million litres will be imported, while 10 million litres will be procured locally. Distribution will be carried out through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
★ The government will spend about Tk 642.45 crore on edible oil procurement and Tk 72.20 crore on lentils. Imported soybean oil will be sourced from companies in Nigeria, the United States and Malaysia, while rice bran oil will be purchased from domestic mills.
★ In addition, 10,000 tonnes of lentils will be procured locally and sold through TCB at subsidised rates to support consumers during the festive period.
