ICE cotton futures weakened on Thursday, with nearby contracts falling 70 to 85 points. Crude oil futures rose 4 cents to $65.46 per barrel, while the U.S. Dollar Index increased by 0.100 to 97.725.
Export Sales data for the week ending February 19 showed total cotton sales of 253,229 running bales. This was down 45.69% from the previous week and 18.95% below the same week last year. Bangladesh was the largest buyer with 70,700 RB, followed by India with 59,700 RB.
Cotton shipments totaled 193,005 RB during the week, up 11.81% from the previous week. Vietnam was the top destination with 74,200 RB, followed by Pakistan with 21,300 RB.
The Seam reported sales of 10,891 bales on February 25 at an average price of 60.73 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index increased by 30 points to 75.85 cents per pound on Tuesday.
ICE certified cotton stocks remained steady at 119,457 bales on February 24. The Adjusted World Price was raised by 1.79 cents to 51.84 cents per pound.
