Heavy rainfall across several states due to a depression

New Delhi: Over the past few days, the Southwest monsoon has been bolstered by low-pressure areas and a depression, resulting in torrential rains across regions ranging from Konkan, Gujarat, coastal Karnataka, central Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh to Northwest India. Although the depression affecting Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka has weakened into a low-pressure area—and is expected to weaken further starting tomorrow—extremely heavy rainfall is forecast to continue in Chhattisgarh.
Similarly, rainy spells are likely to persist in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for Wayanad and surrounding districts in the southern state of Kerala, which is expected to benefit the black pepper crop; the monsoon has been active in the region for the past few days.
According to the Meteorological Department, a potent monsoon depression over East India has weakened and transformed into a well-marked low-pressure area. The northern limit of the monsoon has remained stationary for the fourth consecutive day, currently passing through Jamnagar, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Hisar, and Bathinda.
This weakening system may gradually move towards western and northwestern states. It is currently reaching Madhya Pradesh and southwestern Uttar Pradesh, with further weakening expected from July 8 onwards. Conditions remain favorable for monsoon activity in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana over the next three days.
