Government Procurement of Paddy in Haryana Reaches 15.52 Lakh Tonnes

Chandigarh. In Haryana—a leading state contributing food grains to the central pool—government agencies have procured 15.52 lakh tonnes of paddy so far during the current Kharif marketing season. Farmers have been paid Rs 1,221 crore for this produce.

The Chief Secretary of Haryana is conducting a rigorous assessment of the entire paddy procurement system, covering aspects such as the arrival of paddy in the *mandis* (agricultural produce markets), procurement operations, the lifting of stocks, payments to farmers, and the use of technology. The objective is to make the procurement process more efficient, transparent, and farmer-friendly.

During a review meeting held recently, the need for better coordination and cooperation among the district administration, procurement agencies, *mandi* officials, transporters, and rice millers was emphasized. It has been directed that this cooperation be maintained throughout the entire procurement period.

The Principal Secretary of the Haryana Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department informed the meeting that, as of October 15, 2026, a total of 21.27 lakh tonnes of paddy had arrived in the state’s *mandis*, out of which 15.52 lakh tonnes have already been procured. Additionally, 7.69 lakh tonnes of paddy have been lifted from the *mandis*. Efforts are underway to ensure the rapid lifting of the remaining stock.

Government agencies are actively procuring paddy from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), and payments are being disbursed in a timely manner. Notably, this season, the government procurement of paddy in Haryana was permitted to commence on September 29, rather than October 1.
