Fenugreek Prices Rise: No Sign of a Downturn

New Delhi. Fenugreek prices are currently trending upwards. During the current week, prices have risen by ₹200–300 per quintal, and the market sentiment remains bullish. This is because fenugreek stocks at production centers are low due to reduced domestic production this season, while there are still 7–8 months remaining before the arrival of the new crop.
It is noteworthy that the sowing area for fenugreek dropped by 12% to 1.15 lakh hectares this season. Coupled with adverse weather conditions affecting the crop, yields declined; production estimates stood at 12–14 lakh quintals, compared to 17–18 lakh quintals the previous year. For the current season, fenugreek production in the major producing state of Madhya Pradesh is estimated at 7–8 lakh quintals, while estimates for Gujarat and Rajasthan stand at 3–3.50 lakh quintals and 2–2.50 lakh quintals, respectively.
Arrivals
As the bulk of the total produce has already reached the markets, daily arrivals have slowed down. Arrivals at major markets like Neemuch and Jawra have dropped to 1,000–1,200 bags, while Mandsaur is seeing arrivals of 400–500 bags. Arrivals at the Rajkot market in Gujarat are running at 100–150 bags. In Rajasthan, the Kota market is receiving 50–100 bags, and the Nokha market is seeing arrivals of 400–500 bags.
Prices
Due to low arrivals and rising demand this week, prices for average-quality fenugreek have increased by ₹200–300 per quintal, reaching ₹6,700–7,100 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh markets. Sources believe that prices could rise by ₹8–10 per kilogram in the coming days due to a shortage of stock.
It is noteworthy that the total availability of fenugreek in the country during the current season is considered to be lower than consumption levels. Estimates suggest a combined annual requirement of approximately 18–20 lakh quintals for domestic consumption and exports; however, total availability for the current season—comprising a production of 12–14 lakh quintals and carry-over stocks of 2–3 lakh quintals—is estimated at only 15–17 lakh quintals.
Exports
Fenugreek exports have been affected recently due to conflicts in Middle Eastern countries. Reports indicate that during the first two months of the 2026–27 year (April–May 2026), the volume of fenugreek exports declined by 33 percent, while export earnings fell by 20 percent. According to data released by the Spices Board, fenugreek exports stood at 6,742 tonnes, generating earnings of ₹55.93 crore during April–May 2026; in contrast, exports during April–May 2025 were 10,041 tonnes, with earnings of ₹69.69 crore. Total fenugreek exports for the year 2025–26 amounted to 47,069 tonnes, compared to 44,516 tonnes in 2024–25.
