New Delhi: The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry has stated that exports of merchandise goods from India are expected to rise by approximately 15 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, driven by a partial improvement in the situation in West Asia.

He noted that the atmosphere during bilateral trade talks with the US was cordial, free from any tension or pressure, as India was fully prepared to articulate its position.

According to the Commerce Minister, total exports from India are projected to grow by about 15 percent in the April-June quarter compared to the previous year. Earlier, exports—including items such as Basmati rice, tea, coffee, oil meal, and spices—had been partially affected not only in West Asia, the Middle East,

and the Gulf region but also in countries beyond, due to the intense conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel in March, as well as the risks associated with the Strait of Hormuz shipping route; however, the situation began to improve from April onwards. Although tensions persist in the region, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is continuing.
