Edible Oil Imports Reach 166.51 Lakh Tonnes in FY 2025-26

New Delhi. During the entire duration (April–March) of the financial year 2025-26, India's imports of edible oils surged to a record high of 166.51 lakh tonnes—an increase of 4.69 lakh tonnes over the total imports of 161.82 lakh tonnes recorded in the financial year 2024-25. Compared to 2024-25, edible oil imports declined in certain months of FY 2025-26, while the volume remained higher during the remaining months. This increase in imports occurred despite elevated global prices.
According to available data, when compared to 2024-25, edible oil imports during 2025-26 saw a decline: falling from 13.04 lakh tonnes to 9.46 lakh tonnes in April; from 14.98 lakh tonnes to 12.55 lakh tonnes in May; from 18.41 lakh tonnes to 16.17 lakh tonnes in July; from 14.45 lakh tonnes to 13.28 lakh tonnes in October; and from 16.23 lakh tonnes to 12.05 lakh tonnes in November.
On the other hand, imports of edible oils improved from 15.28 lakh tonnes in June to 15.98 lakh tonnes; rose from 15.39 lakh tonnes in August to 16.79 lakh tonnes; surged from 10.71 lakh tonnes in September to 16.59 lakh tonnes; increased from 12.42 lakh tonnes in December to 14.10 lakh tonnes; grew from 10.82 lakh tonnes in January (2026) to 13.73 lakh tonnes;
jumped from 9.64 lakh tonnes in February to 13.47 lakh tonnes; and reached 12.36 lakh tonnes in March 2026, up from 10.45 lakh tonnes. In India, edible oils have been imported primarily from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, and Ukraine.
