Domestic and export sales of Californian almonds declined in January

Sacramento. Domestic sales of California almonds declined by 17 percent from 62 million pounds to 51 million pounds in January 2026 compared to January 2025. Similarly, exports of almonds from California also declined by 7 percent from 167 million pounds to 155 million pounds during this period.

Consequently, total domestic and export sales of almonds from California in January 2026 declined to 206 million pounds, a decrease of approximately 10 percent from the total sales of 229 million pounds in January 2025.

Marketing season sales were also weak, declining by 7 percent compared to the previous season. This resulted in an 18 percent decline in domestic sales and a 3 percent decline in export sales. India is considered the largest buyer of Californian almonds.

Although exports declined by 12 percent compared to the previous marketing season, they have picked up in recent months, and demand is expected to remain strong in the future. Meanwhile, exports to Spain increased by 13 percent, and to Italy, they also reached 28.7 million pounds.

However, exports to Western Europe fell by 3 percent. Last season, 29.5 million pounds of almonds were exported there. At that time, the Netherlands and Germany had significant imports.

In addition, Californian almond exports to the United Arab Emirates increased by 3 percent, Turkey by 17 percent, and Morocco by 24 percent. Exports to the Middle East, Asia, and Africa improved by 5 percent, reaching 260 million pounds.
