To prevent farmers from selling crops below MSP, the Union Agriculture Minister has issued strict directions to NAFED and NCCF to ensure effective and faster procurement wherever market prices are below MSP.
The minister directed agencies to increase procurement of pulses and oilseeds such as gram, masur and mustard, fix district-level targets, and ensure payments to farmers within 72 hours. He emphasized that providing farmers with fair prices and timely payments is the government’s top priority.
The meeting also reviewed procurement and payment-related issues in Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured that the central government will coordinate with states to remove all hurdles so that farmers receive the full benefit of MSP.
