Canada's Pea Production Likely to Decline Due to Reduced Sowing

Ottawa. Pea sowing in Canada has covered a smaller area this season, while yield rates are expected to remain near average levels. Consequently, total production is likely to decline. However, due to high carryover stocks, the total availability of peas for the 2026-27 season will not see a significant change. Harvesting operations have already commenced.
Based on data regarding sowing areas from the government agency Statistics Canada, analysts project a decline of approximately 30 percent in yellow pea production and about 26 percent in green pea output compared to last year. Despite strong export performance, Canada holds substantial carryover stocks of peas.
As a result, sufficient stocks will remain to meet both domestic and export demands, despite the lower production. Green pea prices remain stable at around $9 per bushel; the maximum allowable content of split/broken seeds is 5 percent.
Regarding yellow peas, delivery prices are hovering around $8 per bushel. Significant exports of yellow peas during the 2025-26 marketing season (August–July) have resulted in depleted stocks. The carryover stock situation could remain somewhat complex by the end of the 2026-27 season.
