Bangladesh Government Approves Import of 13 Lakh Tons of Rice and Wheat:
★ The increase in imports is due to reduced rice production.
★ In 2025, rice demand is expected to be 278 Lakh tons, and wheat demand 73 Lakh tons.
★ From July 1 to January 31, 45.47 Lakh tons of wheat and rice have been distributed.
★ On January 22, only 900,000 tons of rice and 380,000 tons of wheat remained in stock in Bangladesh.
★ In the current financial year, the government approved the import of 300,000 tons of rice from India and 100,000 tons from Myanmar.
★ By January 22, 57,362 tons of rice were imported from India, and 27,000 tons from Myanmar. Additionally, an agreement for the purchase of 50,000 tons of rice from Pakistan was signed.
★ Despite the reduction in rice duties, only 234,000 tons were imported by January 31, against the approval of 14.81 Lakh tons.
