Australia's Pulses Exports Rise by 12% in 2024, India Remains Top Importer
★ In 2024, Australia’s overseas exports of pulses rose by 12% to 3.8 million tons. The sharpest growth was recorded in 2017, when exports surged by 62%. In 2024, exports reached their highest level yet, and are expected to continue growing in the near future.
★ India was the largest importer, receiving 1.6 million tons of pulses from Australia—accounting for 42% of total exports. This was twice the volume sent to the second-largest destination, Bangladesh (674,000 tons). Egypt ranked third with 591,000 tons, making up 15% of total exports.
★ From 2013 to 2024, Australia’s exports to India grew at an average annual rate of 14.4%. For other major destinations, the growth rate was 7.0% per year for Bangladesh and 9.9% for Egypt.
★ In 2024, Australia exported 1.6 million tons of chickpeas and 1.3 million tons of lentils. Together with broad beans and horse beans, these three varieties accounted for 94% of total pulse exports.
