Jaipur: Mustard, the primary oilseed crop of the Rabi season, is witnessing heavy market arrivals because wholesale market prices are significantly higher than the Minimum Support Price (MSP); conversely, government agencies are struggling to procure the crop.

Data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency—a renowned and trusted firm at the Chandpol grain market in Jaipur—reveals that a total of 6.5 million tonnes (65 lakh tonnes) of mustard was supplied during the first four months of the current marketing season (March–June 2026). This figure includes 50,000 tonnes that reached government procurement centers, where it was purchased by government agencies at the MSP.

According to Anil Chatar, mustard arrivals stood at 1.9 million tonnes in March, 2.0 million tonnes in April, 1.6 million tonnes in May, and 1.0 million tonnes in June. Out of the total arrival of 6.5 million tonnes, 5.3 million tonnes underwent crushing. NAFED/HAFED held a combined stock comprising 100,000 tonnes of old stock and 50,000 tonnes of new stock; of this, 100,000 tonnes were sold. As of July 1, 2026, the country’s total remaining mustard stock stood at 6.525 million tonnes, distributed as follows: 5.125 million tonnes with farmers, 1.35 million tonnes with millers/processors and traders/stockists, and 50,000 tonnes with government agencies.

For the 2025-26 season, total national mustard production is estimated at 11.725 million tonnes, comprising 5.425 million tonnes in Rajasthan, 1.9 million tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 1.35 million tonnes in Haryana/Punjab, 1.3 million tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 0.5 million tonnes in Gujarat, and 1.25 million tonnes across other states, including Bengal and Bihar. Of this, an arrival of 3 lakh tonnes took place in February, and a mustard stock of 114.25 lakh tonnes was available for the marketing season commencing in March.
