Janakpur Dham: Wheat production in Nepal’s Madhesh Province has declined this year compared to previous years. The region is known for its highly fertile land and is considered one of Nepal’s leading wheat-producing provinces.

According to the Directorate of Agricultural Development of Madhesh Province, wheat was cultivated on 300,752 hectares during the current year. With an average yield of 1.80 tons per hectare, total wheat production reached 543,160 tons.

The highest production was recorded in Dhanusha District, where wheat was grown on 35,500 hectares and yielded 98,490 tons, with an average productivity of 2.94 tons per hectare.

Other districts reported the following wheat production figures: Rautahat: 52,741 tons, Sarlahi: 69,596 tons, Mahottari: 72,800 tons, Saptari: 82,320 tons, Bara: 71,920 tons

Adverse weather conditions not only reduced overall production but also affected the quality of the wheat crop. Due to the decline in output, the province is expected to require the import of approximately 50,000 tons of wheat to meet local demand and consumption needs. A significant portion of this wheat may be imported from India.
