According to Crop Progress data, 19% of the U.S. spring wheat crop had been planted, which is 3 percentage points behind the 5-year average of 22%. Planting progress in MN was 10 percentage points behind normal, with ND lagging by 6% and SD 1% behind. Emergence was pegged at 5%.
The winter wheat crop was 34% headed, which is 13 percentage points ahead of normal. Condition ratings remained steady at 30%, though the Brugler500 index dropped 3 points to 287, with a 2% decrease in crops rated from fair to poor (+1%) and very poor (+1%). The only states showing improvement in the Brugler500 index were AR (+35), IL (+2), IN (+1), and OK (+1).
The NOAA's 7-day forecast predicts dryness in most of Kansas, while parts of OK and TX may see 1 to 2 inches of rain. OK, with 43% of the crop headed, and TX, with 65%, might see rain too late for a meaningful impact.
