New Delhi: Due to a significant increase in the sowing area, farmers, traders, and government agencies are all trying to release their stocks into the market, and millers and processors are purchasing it normally. As a result, the wholesale market price of mustard seeds fluctuated by Rs. 50-100 per quintal during the week of December 13-19.

Under this category, the price of 42 percent condition mustard seeds increased by Rs. 50 to Rs. 6950 per quintal in Delhi and improved by Rs. 25 to Rs. 7200 per quintal in Jaipur. On the other hand, the price of average quality mustard seeds fell by Rs. 300 to Rs. 6400/6500 per quintal in Kota.

In other markets of Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, mustard seed prices saw fluctuations of up to Rs. 100 per quintal, both upward and downward. The price of mustard seeds increased by Rs. 50 in Hapur and by Rs. 125 per quintal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. In all the major markets of the country, the price of mustard seeds is running higher than the Minimum Support Price (MSP) declared by the government.

Due to the improvement in mustard seed prices, the prices of mustard oil (expeller and kachi ghani) increased by Rs. 1-1.5 per kg. In Delhi, the price of expeller oil increased by Rs. 15 to Rs. 1435 per 10 kg. There was also an increase of Rs. 5-10 per 10 kg in Charkhi Dadri, Morena, Kota, and Hapur. In Bikaner, the price of expeller oil jumped by Rs. 50 to Rs. 1480 per 10 kg. Similarly, the prices of kachi ghani mustard oil also increased by Rs. 10-15 per 10 kg.

There is a good supply of mustard in the wholesale markets, and trading is proceeding normally. There is a positive sentiment regarding the sowing of this most important oilseed crop of the Rabi season.

During the week under review, good demand was observed for mustard cake and DOC, leading to an improvement in prices. Chinese importers are showing interest in purchasing mustard DOC. Arrivals of new mustard will begin from February.
