Strong upward trend in mustard continues; robust demand for oil

New Delhi. Mustard prices are witnessing a strong upward trend driven by robust demand from crushing and processing units and limited supplies in the markets. Mustard prices are moving towards new record levels. Demand for mustard oil remains strong due to the ongoing festive season.
42% Condition Mustard
During the week of October 3–9, the price of 42% condition mustard rose by ₹150 to ₹8,700 per quintal in Delhi and jumped by ₹200 to ₹8,900 per quintal in Jaipur. With wholesale market prices hovering near record highs, farmers are receiving a strong incentive to increase the area under mustard cultivation this year.

Prices for average quality mustard also rose by ₹150–200 per quintal across most major markets. In Haryana's Adampur market, the price surged by ₹740 to reach ₹8,765 per quintal, while in Dhanera market, it jumped by ₹450 to ₹7,800–8,350 per quintal. Other markets in Haryana saw increases ranging from ₹100 to ₹300. Prices rose by ₹200 in Morena, Porsa, and Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh). In Bharatpur, Rajasthan, the price of mustard increased by ₹250 to reach ₹8,500 per quintal; other markets in the state also recorded price hikes of ₹100–200 per quintal. In Uttar Pradesh, mustard prices rose by ₹250 to ₹9,100 per quintal in Hapur market and by ₹275 to ₹9,400–9,800 per quintal in Agra market.
Mustard Oil / Kachi Ghani
Mustard prices are ruling above ₹8,000 per quintal in almost all wholesale markets (*mandis*). Consequently, the prices of mustard oil (both expeller and *Kachi Ghani*) are soaring. During the week of October 3–9, the price of mustard oil (expeller) rose by ₹45 to ₹1,740 per 10 kg in Delhi and surged by ₹65 to ₹1,785 per 10 kg in Mumbai. In Kota, mustard oil prices increased by ₹40. Across all centers, the price is hovering above ₹170 per kg.
Market Arrivals
Daily mustard arrivals ranged between 1.50 and 2.00 lakh bags (50 kg per bag). The market is currently in the off-season for supply, while sowing is expected to gain momentum soon. The cultivation area is likely to increase this season.
