Lentil prices soften due to sluggish demand
Mumbai. During the current week, lentil prices softened due to increased selling at higher prices and sluggish buying. Due to lack of customer support in lentil dal, the buying of lentil by dal millers has remained limited, due to which fluctuations are being seen in lentil prices. Due to less rain in South Australia, the condition of lentil crop is not good at present, the crop is normal in other parts. In Australia, farmers and exporters have old stock of lentils around 3.5 lakh tonnes. Due to increased selling by importers and weak buying, Mumbai lentil registered a decline of Rs 50 per quintal this week and with this decline, the price at the weekend remained Mundra Rs 6150/75, Hazira Rs 6175 and container Rs 6250/6300 per quintal. While no increase or decrease was seen in the prices of Kolkata lentil this week and the prices remained stable at Rs. 6400/6450 per quintal at the weekend.
Delhi
Due to calm buying by dal millers, Delhi lentil prices registered an increase or decrease of Rs. 25/50 per quintal this week and with this increase or decrease the prices remained at Rs. 6525 for small Kota, Rs. 6975 for Bundi, Rs. 7025 for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 6700 per quintal for desi badi at the weekend. Due to increased selling and weak demand, prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a fall of Rs. 100/150 per quintal during the current week and with this fall, the prices remained at Ashoknagar Rs. 6000/6050, Ganjbasoda Rs. 5600/6100, Sagar Rs. 5700/6000, Damoh Rs. 5800/6200, Indore Rs. 6200 and Katni Rs. 6600 per quintal at the weekend.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to sluggish buying and selling, no rise or fall was observed in prices of lentils in Uttar Pradesh during the current week and prices remained stable at Bareilly Choti Rs. 7200/7250, Moti Rs. 6750, Kanpur Rs. 6550 and Lalitpur Moti Rs. 5950/6050, Choti Rs. 6400/6500 per quintal at the weekend. Due to normal demand, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal during the current week and with this fall, the prices remained at Rs. 6550 in Barh, Rs. 6450 in Khusrupur and Rs. 6550 per quintal at Mokama at the weekend. Due to weak buying by dal millers, Raipur lentil fell by Rs. 50 per quintal this week and remained at Rs. 6300 per quintal at the weekend.
Masoor Dal
Due to the impact of the fall in lentil prices and sluggish consumer demand, the prices of lentil dal fell by Rs. 50 per quintal this week and with this fall, the prices remained at Rs. 7650 in Jalgaon, Rs. 7500/7700 in Indore, Rs. 7550/7850 in Barh and Rs. 7450/7750 per quintal at Khusrupur.
