Kyiv. Harvesting of the new crop of sunflower has begun in the southern part of Odessa province in Ukraine, a neighboring country of Russia located in the Black Sea region, and its initial yield rate was recorded at 2.20 tonnes per hectare,

which is much higher than last year's 1.70 tonnes per hectare. But due to prolonged dry weather at the national level, trade analysts have reduced the sunflower production estimate from 141 lakh tonnes to 136 lakh tonnes. During the next two weeks, mild weather is expected in Ukraine and light rain is expected at some places.

Due to the complex supply situation, prices are increasing at the ports of Ukraine. The current price of CPT at Odessa Port has started from $ 1160 per tonne, while the offer price of RBD has increased to $ 1310 per tonne.

Sunflower oil exports from Ukraine jumped 47 per cent to 4.64 lakh tonnes during July 2025 as compared to June and with this, a total of 45.80 lakh tonnes of oil was shipped from Ukraine in the 11 months from September 2024 to July 2025.

In fact, the supply of sunflower oil in Russia has been declining since January, which is benefiting Ukraine. In Russia, the ruble exchange rate has strengthened and secondly, a high level export duty was also imposed on sunflower oil, which has now been postponed for the month of August.

As a result, exports from there have started increasing rapidly. At present, the export offer price of Russia's crude sunflower oil on FCA basis is $ 1090 per tonne and the offer price of refined oil is $ 1190 per tonne, which is much lower than Ukraine. Its demand in the global market remains strong. In May, the stock of sunflower seed in Russia fell by 15 per cent to 6 lakh tonnes.
