New Delhi. In recent months, there has been a change in the wholesale market price of most major agricultural products and as a result, the prices of some commodities have improved and reached above the Minimum Support Price (MSP), while the prices of some other products are still running below.

This includes crops produced in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. For example, the MSP of wheat is fixed at Rs 2425 per quintal, while in Saharanpur (UP) its price is Rs 2585 per quintal.

In the category of pulses crops, the MSP of gram has been fixed at Rs 5650 per quintal, urad at Rs 7800, tuvar at Rs 8000, moong at Rs 8768 and lentil at Rs 6700 per quintal for the marketing season of 2025-26.

In comparison, the wholesale market price of gram is Rs 6000 per quintal in Bikaner, the price of urad is Rs 7000 per quintal in Latur (Maharashtra), the price of tuvar is Rs 6600 per quintal in Latur itself, the price of moong is Rs 7100 per quintal in Jodhpur and the price of lentil is Rs 6600 per quintal in Ashok Nagar (Madhya Pradesh).

In this way, except gram, the wholesale market price of all other pulses is running below the MSP. On the other hand, in oilseed crops, except soybean, the price of others is above the minimum support price, which includes mustard, groundnut and sesame.

The MSP of mustard for the marketing season of 2025-26 is fixed at Rs 5950 per quintal, whereas in Bharatpur (Rajasthan) its price is running at Rs 7025 per quintal. Similarly, the price of groundnut has reached Rs 7500 in Rajkot (Gujarat),

which is more than the MSP of Rs 7263 per quintal. In Gwalior, the price of sesame has reached Rs 10,100 per quintal, which is more than the MSP of Rs 9846 per quintal. But the price of soybean is running about Rs 578 per quintal lower in Indore as compared to the MSP of Rs 5328 per quintal.

The condition of coarse grains is also similar. The price of barley, sorghum and millet is above the support price, but the price of maize is somewhat lower.

The MSP of barley has been fixed at Rs 1980 per quintal, jowar (hybrid) at Rs 3699, millet at Rs 2775 and maize at Rs 2400 per quintal.

In comparison, the price of barley is Rs 2950 per quintal in Jodhpur, the price of sorghum in Jalna (Maharashtra) is Rs 3800, the price of millet is also Rs 2900 per quintal in Jalna, while the price of maize is said to be Rs 2350 per quintal in Gulab Bagh, Bihar. Due to the continued heavy import of tur and urad among pulse crops,

its prices are under pressure. However, the minimum support price fixed for the Kharif marketing season of 2025-26 has not yet come into effect. This MSP will be considered applicable for the upcoming new crop.
