Ukraine’s Sunflower Output Likely to Drop to 137 Lakh Tonnes

Kiev. The sunflower crop scenario in Ukraine, a country located in the Black Sea region, looks weak this year, due to which the production of this most important oilseed is expected to shrink to 136-137 lakh tonnes.
Due to the fall in production, the margin of crushers-processors may become negative and the prices of sunflower may rise.
The availability of sunflower oil is also likely to be limited. Farmers may try to suppress the stock of sunflower. Crushing-processing units are using only 63 percent of their total accumulated capacity. The market price of new crop sunflower is expected to reach a very high level in September-October.
The current price of CPT till Odessa Port is said to be above $ 1150 per tonne and the price of refined sunflower oil is $ 1285 per tonne.
The Russian government has suspended the export duty on sunflower oil and oilmeal till August 31. In the last few days, the exchange rate of the Russian ruble has weakened by 4 percent against the US dollar.
Russian crushers are trying to keep the price of sunflower at a high level. Its price of reaching Mersin is running at $ 1200 per tonne. The offer price of oil produced from the new crop is being told to be $ 1230 per tonne for India.
During the month of June, the import of sunflower oil in India increased by 17.75 percent, while due to the demand of the festive season, its import and domestic market price are likely to increase further in the coming time.
During the entire marketing season of 2024-25 (November-October), the total import of edible oils in India is estimated to reach close to 160 lakh tonnes.
As far as soybean oil is concerned, a positive trend is being seen in its market at present, but there may be some softening in it going forward.
The weather conditions in the US and Argentina have become favorable, which will increase the pace of soybean crushing.
Export duty on soybean oil has been reduced in Argentina. There are indications of increase in export of soybean oil from China to India and other neighboring countries. Its free on board export offer price there is running around $ 1100 per tonne.
