Myanmar Maintains Steady Pulse Exports

Mandalay. Export of various pulses and especially urad and tuvar from India's northeastern neighboring country Myanmar continues regularly.

In July 2025, 50,776 tonnes of urad and 37,207 tonnes of tuvar were exported from there and with this, the total export of urad from there increased to 4,88,336 tonnes and tuvar export improved to 2,20,804 tonnes in the first seven months of the current calendar year.

According to the available data, 80,266 tonnes of urad was exported from Myanmar in January 2025, which improved to 80,784 tonnes in February and jumped to 1,00,755 tonnes in March, after which it declined to 61,425 tonnes in April. In May, exports improved slightly to 64,211 tonnes but in June it fell to 50,119 tonnes. Its quantity stood at 50,776 tonnes in July.

As far as Tuvar is concerned, its export from Myanmar was stuck at a low level of 5606 tonnes in January 2025, but after increasing to 29,250 tonnes in February, jumping to 42,147 tonnes in March and improving to a peak level of 42,875 tonnes in April, it decreased to 34,205 tonnes in May and fell to 29,514 tonnes in June. Tuvar export improved slightly and reached 37,207 tonnes in July 2025.

It is worth mentioning that almost the entire quantity of Urad from Myanmar is exported to India, while most of the Tuvar is also purchased by Indian importers. After the new crop of Urad is ready in December-January, its massive export starts from there.

The Government of India has extended the time limit for duty and control free import of tur and urad till 31 March 2026, so that Indian importers are not facing any difficulty in importing it from Myanmar.

Apart from Myanmar, urad is imported to India from Brazil and African countries. In African countries, preparation for harvesting of the new crop of tur usually starts from August.
