Slight Improvement in US Pea Crop Condition

Washington. Pea crop conditions in the US improved slightly last week due to a minor improvement in weather conditions, though some risks remain.

In Montana and North Dakota—the top two pea-producing states—approximately 45 percent of the crop area is rated as good or promising, a figure comparable to the previous week.

However, the proportion of the crop rated as "fair" (average) has risen from 31 percent to 37 percent. Consequently, the area with poor or very poor crop conditions has declined from 24 percent to 18 percent.

In Montana, 51 percent of the pea crop is in good or promising condition, while 23 percent is rated fair, and 26 percent is in poor or very poor condition.

In North Dakota, 65 percent of the crop is rated fair, 33 percent promising, and 2 percent poor. Crop conditions in other producing states remain largely average. The new crop is expected to be ready in August.
