Saskatoon. With pea sowing completed in Canada, attention has now shifted to crop progress. Harvesting is set to begin in August, and large-scale purchase contracts for the upcoming crop have already been finalized. As buyers focus on the next harvest, trading activity for existing stocks has slowed down.

Prices for yellow peas have remained stable at $8.00–$8.50 per bushel (FOB farm price) for June–August delivery over the past few weeks. However, due to weak demand, green pea prices have softened slightly to $9.00–$9.50 per bushel.

Nevertheless, producers in Western Canada—particularly in the province of Saskatchewan—are showing little interest in selling their green peas at these lower price levels. Prices for Maple peas are also hovering between $9.50 and $11.00 per bushel. Forward contract prices for the upcoming new pea crop remain largely stable.

Canadian pea exporters are focusing on markets in China and India. China has significantly reduced tariffs, while adverse weather conditions in India raise concerns about the impact on Kharif pulse production. A report from the government agency 'StatsCan' is due on June 30, which will include details on the area sown with peas.
