6 Billion Litres of Ethanol Supplied to OMCs by May

New Delhi: Distillers supplied a total of 6.15 billion litres of ethanol to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) during the first seven months of the 2025-26 marketing season (November 2025 to May 2026). This represents approximately 59 percent of the total order of 10.50 billion litres placed for the entire marketing season.

The majority of this ethanol was produced from grain, while the remainder was derived from sugarcane-based feedstocks. OMCs procure ethanol from distillers at fixed prices for blending with petrol.

Of the 6.15 billion litres supplied, 4.06 billion litres (66 percent) were produced from grains—including maize, rice, and damaged grains—while 2.10 billion litres (34 percent) were produced from sugarcane-based feedstocks.

Notably, a lower quota was allocated for ethanol derived from sugarcane feedstocks this time; consequently, distillers have successfully supplied 73 percent of the total 2.90 billion-litre order for this category. Regarding grain-based ethanol,

the order was for 7.60 billion litres, of which only 53.4 percent (4.06 billion litres) could be supplied. OMCs are likely to issue a tender soon for the supply of an additional 1.50 billion litres of ethanol. There was a good supply of sugarcane during the November-May period.
