News Capsule: The IMD said that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ is likely to weaken by Wednesday afternoon.
★ On Tuesday (October 28, 2025), IMD Director General M. Mahapatra stated that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ over the west-central Bay of Bengal is expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday morning and further into a depression by the afternoon.
★ The landfall of the storm is likely to continue near Kakinada, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam along the Andhra Pradesh coast, over the next few hours. Wind speeds may reach 90–100 km/h, with gusts up to 110 km/h.
★ Heavy rainfall is expected in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, which may subside by the weekend. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until Wednesday.
