Jakarta. Indonesia, a major producer and exporter of pepper, is expected to see a sharp decline in production and stocks of this important spice in 2025 compared to 2024, leading to a significant decline in its exports.

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), Indonesia's outstanding pepper stocks declined from 51,482 tons to 26,480 tons in the current year compared to last year, and production also declined from 58,897 tons to 52,943 tons. Additionally, imports from abroad decreased from 1,097 tons to 318 tons.

This has resulted in a decrease in the total availability of pepper in Indonesia. Meanwhile, domestic consumption is expected to improve from 29,251 tons last year to 29,612 tons this year.

Due to a sharp decline in stocks, Indonesian pepper exports are projected to fall from 55,475 tonnes in 2024 to 37,081 tonnes in 2025. Nevertheless, the outstanding surplus pepper stocks are expected to decrease from 26,480 tonnes to 13,048 tonnes.
