News Capsule: Ethanol Supply Reaches Around 718 Crore Litres in ESY 2025-26; Grain-Based Feedstock Leads Production
★ Total ethanol supplies in Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26 reached approximately 718 crore litres as of June 30, 2026, achieving around 83% of the contracted quantity for the first three quarters (Q1–Q3).
★ Grain-based feedstocks remained the largest source of ethanol production, contributing about 480 crore litres, which is around 82% of the contracted volume of 587 crore litres.

Maize Emerges as the Largest Feedstock
★ Among grain-based feedstocks, maize remained the single largest contributor, supplying about 258 crore litres of ethanol, achieving around 86% of its contracted volume of 301 crore litres.
★ Surplus Food Grains (SFG) contributed about 177 crore litres, fulfilling around 76% of contracted volumes, while Damaged Food Grains (DFG) supplied about 45 crore litres, achieving approximately 85% of contracted quantities.

Strong Contribution from Sugarcane-Based Feedstocks
★ Sugarcane-based feedstocks supplied about 238 crore litres of ethanol, representing around 87% of the contracted volume of 275 crore litres.
★ Sugarcane Juice (SCJ) accounted for about 144 crore litres, recording the highest fulfilment rate among the major feedstocks at around 89%.
★ B-Heavy Molasses (BHM) contributed about 82 crore litres, achieving around 85% of contracted quantities.
★ C-Heavy Molasses (CHM) supplied about 12 crore litres, fulfilling approximately 75% of its contracted volume.

Feedstock Diversification Strengthens Ethanol Programme
★ The data highlights the growing role of maize in India's ethanol blending programme. Alongside sugarcane-based feedstocks, the increasing use of grain-based raw materials reflects the government's strategy to diversify ethanol feedstocks, reduce dependence on a single source, and ensure a stable year-round supply of ethanol.
