News Capsule: Chana Prices Likely to Stay Firm on Festival Demand and Tight Supplies
★ Chana prices are expected to remain firm in the near term, supported by limited supplies and rising festival demand.
★ Demand for chana is picking up ahead of the festive season beginning in mid-August. Dal and besan mills, snack manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers have already started building inventories to meet the expected increase in consumption.
★ Arrivals of the rabi chana crop have declined significantly, while stockists are releasing only limited quantities in anticipation of higher prices. As a result, festival demand is expected to keep the market well supported in the coming weeks.
★ The government's continued sale of chana and the availability of imported chana at ports are likely to prevent any sharp spike in prices. However, a gradual rise in prices could encourage buyers to continue replenishing stocks for the festive season, whereas a steep rally might discourage purchasing.
★ The Delhi market also remained firm. Madhya Pradesh line chana increased by ₹50 to ₹6,225 per quintal, while Rajasthan Best line chana rose by ₹60 to ₹6,300 per quintal.
